Celebrating the life of
Ronald S. Franch
January 06, 1970 - April 13, 2026
Ronald Steven Franch, known as Ronnie or Ron to the people lucky enough to call him family and friend passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Candler Hospital, surrounded by the people he loved most. He was born January 6, 1970, in Melrose Park, Illinois, to Rinaldo and Mary Frances Franch, and in the 56 years that followed, he made a quiet but lasting mark on everyone he met.
Ronnie grew up on Talahi Island, where the marshes, riverbanks, and open water were his playground. He spent his childhood fishing and combing the riverbanks for old artifacts, a hobby that he loved, never in a hurry, always curious, and completely in his element. The annual family trips to the mountains were something he genuinely treasured.
Ronnie was not a complicated man, he was a quiet, easy-going, kindhearted man with a giving heart that seemed to have no bottom. He was never the loudest voice in the room; he didn't need to be. Ronnie spoke through his actions, and those actions said everything. His mind was always on the people around him, quietly noticing who needed a hand, or simply someone to show up. He never sought recognition for it. That was never his style. Giving came as natural to Ronnie as breathing, and the people in his life felt it in ways both big and small, every single day. He lived simply, loved generously, and never needed the spotlight to make a difference.
He loved his family and friends. He showed up when it counted and had a remarkable ability to make any room feel a little warmer just by being in it.
And then, of course, there was the smile, the kind that could charm just about anyone without a single word. And if you were paying close enough attention, you'd catch what came next: the smirk. That small, telltale smirk that meant something funny was coming, whether you were ready or not. More often than not, you weren't, and honestly, it was better that way.
Ronnie was a quiet man, but never a dull one. Just when you thought he was simply sitting back taking it all in, he'd say something so unexpected and hilarious that it made everyone laugh. It was never planned, never forced, it just came out of nowhere. No warning, no build-up. Just Ronnie, that famous smirk, and everyone laughing.
Ronnie is preceded in death by his father, Rinaldo Stefan Franch. He is survived by his significant other of 34 years, Susan McClelland; his mother, Mary Frances Franch; his three sisters, Deborah Blasucci (Michael), Angela Ellis (Jeff), and Nichole Hearn; his three nephews, Nick, Logan, and Michael; and a wide extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Ronnie's Honor on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Fox & Weeks on Whitemarsh Island. The family welcomes everyone who knew and loved him to come share in the memories.

So sorry to hear about Ronnie. Even though it's been over 30 years since I last saw him, reading this immediately reminded me about "that" smirk he had ever since he was a little boy. Such a cutie. So many good childhood memories between our families from Chicago to Savannah.
